The purpose of this study is to encourage patients who suffer from Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) to get regular daily exercise via walking. During their regularly scheduled visit to their doctor’s office, the COPD patient is asked to take a “shuttle walk examination.” The physician inputs the patient’s personal information, including the test results, which help to determine at what level of intensity the patient should be walking when he/she exercises. When the patient is exercising at home, the platform generates a short message service (SMS) message to the patient’s mobile phone telling him/her at what level of intensity (i.e. music tempo) he/she should be exercising. The patient also uses
his/her mobile phone to fill out a pre and post-exercise questionnaire that gathers health-related information before and after their exercise session. The information record via the questionnaire includes the amount of time spent exercising and the patient’s pre/post exercise data
(e.g. heart rate, blood pressure, etc.).
